Life Lately: August 2022
August flew by: my husband and I celebrated our birthdays, Levi turned six months, we went on a family vacation, work has been busy, and in between it all, we visited a few farms too!
My husband and I dream of (and are working towards!) owning a ranch of our own and raising our family out in the country, so we visit local farms wherever we go. But, it’s even more fun to visit farms now with Levi, who is incredibly curious and loves to be outdoors. To discover the world through his eyes is everything.
To start the month, we visited Traders Point Creamery - they have the most beautiful garden and we loved our brunch at their restaurant. This was the first time Levi got to see chickens in real life and he was mesmerized by everything on the farm.
My youngest two sisters came up to visit for a weekend, so my husband and I got a chance to go out on our own for date night (which has been rare since Levi was born), and my sister (who is a photographer) took our family photos.
That same weekend, a friend came to visit and we took Levi to a local event in the square where Levi got to climb on tractors.
Our zinnias are exploding and bringing us so much joy!
We drove up north to South Haven, Michigan for vacation. My parents and younger brother joined us, and although Levi did not do well sleeping in a new place, he loved the beach. The weather was perfect all week, and it was a much needed getaway for us, even though vacationing with a baby is very different from vacationing without kids!
While in Michigan we visited two farms. The first one we went to had animals - Levi loved the goats and chickens the most. Oh, and he couldn’t take his eyes off the old tractors on the farm.
We also visited a flower farm, which Levi also loved - between playing in the dirt and grass and exploring so many new varieties of flowers, even the heat didn’t bother him. Lately, my husband and I have been dreaming of starting a small flower farm on our land someday, so this trip was part market research and part pleasure.
In between it all was ordinary, daily life. Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, which included new tax laws, and since part of my job is keeping up with tax policy and legislation, my work has gotten really busy.
We also ended up only having full-time childcare for half the month, which was so good while it lasted, but then our babysitter went back to college and so we’ve been making do with part-time care thanks to some church friends, and my husband and I tag-teaming to watch Levi and work. This means our work days stretched out basically from waking up to going to bed, but I am grateful for this season and for the flexibility my husband and I have to work and be home with Levi as needed.
Summer is wonderful, but fall is my favorite season and I’m so excited for the weather to cool off and to hopefully get to do more things outdoors with our little family!
